Kettering Premier Judo Club grant leads to new beginners course

Kettering Premier Judo Club has received a grant to run a series of four-week adult beginners courses starting in June.

The club, who were awarded their Bronze Clubmark Award in 2006, received the grant from Northamptonshire Sports Get Sporty fund.

Laurence Kenyon, Kettering Premier Judo Club’s Development Manager, said: “The scheme is aimed at getting more adults involved in sport as well as encouraging former players to return to these types of activities.

“This will enable us to offer the whole block of coaching and a judo suit for just £20 to anyone wishing to come along.”

The course will take place on Saturday morning’s from 11.00 am – 12.00 noon and is open to newcomers who are aged 15 and above.

“Our hope is to attract 20 newcomers to the sessions and as part of the grant we will also be sending two of our Young Leaders, who will assist on the beginners sessions, on Level 1 coaching courses over the summer.”

The highly-active club also has two very special judo figures visiting in May and July as former World Champion Craig Fallon and 8th Dan Roy Inman run master class sessions in Kettering.

Fallon, 27, who has taken a sabbatical since the 2008 Beijing Olympics, will take a session on Sunday May 23rd while distinguished coach Inman will hold a class for players and coaches on Saturday 10th July.

The club train at William Knibb Centre Dojo, Alfred Street, Kettering, Northants, NN16 8AE. Junior beginners train on Tuesday and Thursday at 18:30 – 19:30 while juniors (advanced) train on the same days at 20:30 – 21:45. Junior beginners also train on Saturday at 10:00 – 11:00 while senior beginners follow at 11:00 – 12:00.
