A 46 strong GB Masters judo team will be in action at the 2016 Veterans World Championship in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States from Friday 18 to Monday 21 November.
When Fort Lauderdale hosted the Junior World Championships in 2014 two British judoka came away with medals in Ebony Drysdale-Daley (-70kg) and Jemima Yeats-Brown (-63kg). This year’s crop of GB Masters judoka will be hoping to at least match those achievements.
At last year’s Veterans World Championship in Amsterdam the GB Masters squad finished the competition with 17 medals in total including a golds for Michele Agnelli (M10 -81kg), Daniel Harvey (M2 +100kg), Kirstin Gray (F2 -57kg) and Sarah Hopkins (F4 +78kg).
While Agnelli, Gray and Harvey aren’t back to defend their title, a number of other medallists from last year including Joyce Malley (F5 -70kg), Sandra Hughes (F2 -78kg), Terence Watt (M8 -90kg) and Stan Cantrill (M10 -73kg), are back and all will be hoping to improve their positions on the medal rostrum this time around.
Earlier this year GB Masters also came away with eight medals at the Veteran European Championship in Porec, Croatia, to finish tenth in the medal table.
Kay Andrews (F6 -78kg) and Kyle Perry (M1 -66kg) medalled in Porec with gold and silver respectively and the duo will want to add a World medal to their collections for the year.
Competition starts on Friday 18 November at 1430 UK time on each day with the draw updated at 2000 local time each day. Follow @BritishJudo on Twitter for end of day medal and/or placings updates
