Its the final countdown to enter the English Open
February 19, 2014
With only days left before entries close for the 2014 English Open for Junior and Senior’s, ensure you don’t miss out by entering before Monday 24 February.
The British Judo ranking event takes place on Sunday 9 March 2014 at the iceSheffield arena, located in the heart of the Don Valley area of Sheffield.
This is the day after the British Schools Championships – an event that has enjoyed a record entry so far.
However, there are still plenty of places left for the English Open, a junior and senior domestic ranking event carrying points towards selection for the British Championships.
British Judo welcomes all players above blue belt, provided they meet the minimum age requirements detailed below to enter either or both competitions.
It will be an action-packed event with six mats in operation and both competitions will run in a knock-out format.
Many of the medallists from last year’s events such as Max Stewart, Lucas Rowe, Connor Ireland, Sam Potts, Max Stewart, Hayley Willis, Jodie Myers. Bekky Livesey, Natasha Maslen and many more also went on to take honours at the British Championships that earned their place on the GB squad.
At last year’s open, there were also standout matches from the now retired judo legend and Olympian Winston Gordon and young Philip Awiti-Alcaraz plus Sam Ingram against Michael Horley.
English Champion Caroline Kinnane (-78kg) looks set to return to the mat to defend her title as does Natasha Maslen (-70kg).
The current -60kg British Junior Champion, and silver senior medallist, Sam Hall, who took bronze at last year’s open, plus reigning under 81kg Junior Champion Matt Kavanagh and last year’s silver English medallist, have also confirmed their attendance to name but a few.
So, here is your chance to fight amongst the country’s best players.
