Saturday saw 15 national junior champions crowned at the EIS, Sheffield.

Middlesborough JC won three Junior Men’s titles as Alfie Mitchell (-55kg), Joseph Kirk (-90kg) and Jake McKenna (-100kg) all won gold.

Mitchell added the Junior -55kg title to the Cadet title he won last week. Mitchell defeated Jesse Chraniuk (High Wycombe JC) in the final. Kirk had a ‘walk-on’ in his final against Joe Bygate (Kodokawi), whilst McKenna came out top of the -100kg round-robin.

Pre-competition favourite for the -73kg title, Luke Davies (Ealing JC), did not disappoint as he defended his title in style, defeating Ben Levy (Budokwai) in the semi-final, before victory against Benjamin Fox-Kennedy (Camberley JC) in the final.

Ross Dempsey (Clyde JC) provided an upset in the -60kg, defeating defending champion Lewis Fryer (Rush Judo), whilst Iraki Ilia Goginashvili (Palvani JC) added the Junior -66kg title to the Cadet title he won last week following victory against Charlie Thorp (Black Dog JC) in the final.

In the -81kg category Luke Austen (Core JA) overcame David Sommerville (Clyde JC) to win gold.

2022 European Youth Olympic Festival bronze medallist, Summer Shaw (Camberley JC) overcame a 10-minute final contest to win gold against a gutsy Amelia Alder (JC Osaka), who defended against her opponent well and only lost by a waza-ari score.

Charlotte Jenman (Tonbridge JC) ended her 2022 season in style adding the Junior -52kg title to the European Cadet bronze medal she won earlier this summer. Jenman defeated Maddy Birri (Ealing JC) in the final.

Chloe Link (Relentless Judo / Faversham) made light work of her final against Ashleigh Gainer (SKK) throwing her opponent for ippon score inside the opening 8 -seconds to win gold.

Ammi Takahashi made it two gold medals for Ealing JC as she topped the -63kg podium following victory against Millie Bayliss (Bradley Stoke JC) in the final.

Ellie Gilbert (SKK) overcame top seed Gwen Lloyd (Hardy Spicer 83/Wolverhampton).

Gracie Wilson (Huddersfield JC) defeated Nicole Wood (Bishops Stortford) to claim the -78kg title whilst in the +78kg category, Christi-Rose Pretorius (Army Judo) upset pre-competition favourite Chloe Baker (SKK) in the final.
