2022 British Schools Judo Championships Useful Information

We can’t wait for this weekend’s British Schools Judo Championships which will see 700 students from over 500 schools battle it out to claim the Simon Hicks trophy.

The English Institute of Sport (EIS) will see over 70 British Schools Judo Champions crowned in front of an expectant crowd. To ensure that the event runs as smoothly as possible, please remind yourself of the competition formats and timings ahead of the weekend.

Parking

There are multiple events occurring at the EIS Sheffield across the competition weekend. We recommend arriving early to secure a parking space. Cash is required for parking.

Competition Format

The intended method of elimination for this event will be knockout with compound repechage.

Contest Times

Academic years 6 and 7: 3 minutes, 3 minutes Golden Score, Referee Decision

Academic years 8 and 9: 3 minutes, unlimited Golden Score

Academic years 10 to 13: 4 minutes, unlimited Golden Score.

Golden Score is per IJF rules

Weight Categories:

Academic years 6 and 7: Technical Restrictions
Male: -27kgs, -30kg, -34kg, -38kg, -42kg, -46kg, -50kg, -55kg, and +55kg

Female: -28kgs, -32kg, -36kg, -40kg, -44kg, -48kg, -52kg, -57kg, and +57kg

Academic years 8 and 9: Armlocks and strangles are NOT permitted
Male: -34kg, -38kg, -42kg, -46kg, -50kg, -55kg, -60kg, -66kg, -73kg, +73kg

Female: -32kg, -36kg, -40kg, -44kg, -48kg, -52kg, -57kg, -63kg, and +63kg

Academic years 10 and 11: Armlocks and Strangles are permitted
Male: -42kg, -46kg, -50kg, -55kg, -60kg, -66kg, -73kg, -81kg, -90kg, and +90kg

Female: -44kg, -48kg, -52kg, -57kg, -63kg, -70kg, and +70kg

Academic years 12 and 13: Armlocks and Strangles are permitted
Male: -60kg, -66kg, -73kg, -81kg, -90kg, and +90kg.
Female: -48kg, -52kg, -57kg, -63kg, -70kg, and +70kg

Medals and Points Scoring

Medals will be presented shortly after the conclusion of each weight category.

There will also be an overall winning school trophy awarded to the school with the most points accumulated during the weekend. Schools can gain points by the following:

2 points – for a competitor that wins a bronze medal

4 points – for a competitor that wins a silver medal

6 points – for a competitor that wins a gold medal

This trophy will be awarded post event.

Pre-orders can be collected from the merchandise stall, where a limited amount of merchandise will also be available to purchase. Please note this will be cashless so card will be required for all purchases.
