7th for Powell on final day of Judo Masters

On the final days competition at the Judo Masters in Qingdao, China, Wales’ Natalie Powell (-78kg) finished in 7th.
Powell, the 2018 Masters bronze medallist, started well beating Marhinde Verkerk (NED) in the 2nd round with a shime-waza for ippon. In the 3rd round she beat Kaliema Antomarchi (CUB) with Ouchi Gari for ippon. She then unfortunately lost to Fei Chen (CHN) in the quarter final after ammasing three shido’s, handing the home player a place in the semi-final.
In the Repechage Powell faced Jeongyun Lee (KOR), the Korean scored 2 waza-ari’s meaning Powell had to settle for a 7th place finish.
Elsewhere Sarah Adlington (+78kg) lost first match against the 2019 World Junior Championship silver medallist Hayun Kim (KOR) by waza-ari and was then held for ippon.
