Team GB Judo pay a visit to Hyde Park
August 09, 2012
Wednesday saw another highly successful session of judo demonstrations and tasters in Hyde Park with BT London Live. Lee Shinkin once again organised the sessions with GB and club athletes showing how the pro’s do it and encouraging line upon line of the watching public to come up and have a go with sessions led by British Judo Coaches. After these sessions all information relating to local clubs was handed out, so look out for these keen new judoka to make their way to the dojo soon!
Excitement levels were raised even higher with the arrival of the Team GB Olympic Judo squad who very kindly stopped by the see the fruits of their promotion of our sport on the highest stage. Many requests for autographs, photos and advice were granted by the athletes with those in the crowd keen to meet the Olympians, particularly Gemma Gibbons who brought along her famous Silver Medal.
An excited buzz filled the temporary dojo throughout the day and the groups of children and adults wanting to take part never wavered. The full Olympic experience was completed with Nadia Minardi, torchbearer as the flame made its way through London, generously brought her torch along for the children to enjoy a mini-relay and for the adults to pose for pictures.
It was without question another success in the park and with only one session left on Friday evening make sure you come down to see what all the fuss has been about!
