World Masters Success for British Athletes

The GB Masters teams had considerable medal success at the recent Veterans World Championships held in Malaga, Spain from 25 – 27 September 2014. The Veterans Championships took place shortly after the World Kata Championships and combined, over 2000 judoka visited Malaga with 1250 athletes from 52 countries competing. The five tatamis were extremely busy over the three days, with the British athletes making the most of their opportunities taking seven Gold, three Silver and three Bronze medals.
Women’s Masters Results:
Debra Small and Sarah Digweed fought in the final of the -52kg category with Sarah taking Gold and Debra taking Silver; Dianne White took Silver in the -57 kg; Joyce Malley took Gold in the F5 -63kg; Charlotte Wilkinson beat Samantha Dobrowlski in the F1 -63kg category final winning Gold to Samantha’s Silver, Emma Jones was placed in 7th; in the F2 -78kg Sandra Hughes was placed 5th while in the F4 -78kg category Sarah Hopkins took Gold; Kay Andrews took Gold in the F7 -78kg while Jenny Hussey took Bronze. Superb performances by the GB Women.
Men’s Masters Results:
Steven David-Lee was placed 5th in the M5 -66kg; Luke Carswell took Gold in the M2 -73KG while Stephen Ashford was placed 7th in the M6 -73 kg; Michael Fyffe was placed 7th in the M5 -90kg; Joe Johnson took Bronze in the M7 -90 kg with Thomas Moyes placed 7th; Terry Watt is the M8 -90kg Champion, taking Gold and Daniel Harvey took Bronze in the M2 – 100kg. A very impressive medal tally and strong placings for the British men’s and women’s teams.
