Medals Galore at the British Schools Judo Championships

Over 400 schools descended on Sheffield today (7th March) to battle it out on the tatami for the title of British Schools Champion. 525 judoka took to the mats in front of a large crowd, with over 250 coaches urging their players on.

The day started with a kata demonstration and the awarding of the Ken Webber Trophy, which went to outstanding Junior Referee, Nathan Gallacher, and the Jerry Hicks Trophy, which went to outstanding junior Table Official, Daisy Faulkner.

The competition then followed medals awarded across a variety of weight and age categories. The full results are available to download here.

Chairman of the British Schools Commission, Malcolm Collins said: “I am delighted with the event and competition this year. It was fantastic to see so many competitors, coaches and schools at the competition and the atmosphere today has been fantastic.

“It was also great to see the kata demonstration this morning, as well as the outstanding junior officials awarded for their work at the event last year with the Ken Webber and Jerry Hicks trophies. The volunteers are the lifeblood of this event and we couldn’t have done this without their help. I would like to thank everyone, the referees, table officials, coaches, competitors, the BJA team, and the schools themselves. It’s been another fantastic day of judo. Thank you.”

Following the British Schools Judo Championships, the English Open takes over the same venue tomorrow. Over 300 competitors across junior and senior categories will take to the tatami, representing 90 clubs. See the entry list here.
