Kookateki Judo Club Celebrates St Patrick’s Day
March 17, 2015
Belfast’s Kookateki Judo Club held its annual St Patrick’s Day Judo party on Saturday 14th March.
The event saw club officials dress up as leprechauns whilst young judoka played games in a fun party atmosphere. There were also shamrock lollies and sticks of rock were available for judoka and their parents. The day was capped off with junior members of the club raising a banner celebrating St Patrick’s Day featuring club mascot, “Kooki” the panda throwing a leprechaun for an ippon.
The aim of the day was to promote and encourage trust and mutual understanding between children from both sides of the religious and political community through judo games and celebrations. The club is keen that as many young people as possible across the community are encouraged to take part and begin their St Patrick’s Day celebrations in a fun healthy way!
Senior club coach Jonathan Cooke said;“Its great that we are able to use Judo to bring both sides of the community together, and have a bit of fun along the way”.
