March 23, 2015
British judoka, Frazer Chamberlain (-90kg) and Owen Livesey (-81kg) finished off their Pan American tour in style with a pair of gold medals at the Pan American Open Buenos Aires. Livesey adds to his earlier gold in Santiago whilst Chamberlain maintains a 100% medal record on the tour adding to his bronze medals in Santiago and Montevideo.
Great Britain finished second in the medal table at the Pan American Open Buenos Aires, with silver medals from Ashley McKenzie (-60kg), Nathon Burns (-66kg) and Kim Renicks (-48kg) and a bronze medal for Aaron Turner (-66kg).
Andrew Burns (-90kg), Theodore Spalding-McIntosh (+100kg) and Louise Renicks (-52kg) took 5th places, whilst Ashley Fleming (+78kg) and Connie Ramsay (-57kg) took 7th places.
Nigel Donohue, British Judo Performance Director, said: “The team have had a tough three weeks on the Pan American tour, culminating in excellent results including two gold medals this weekend, and some fantastic performances along the way.
“Credit to the athletes and coaches making the effort to self-fund their tour and for their hard work over the last three weeks.”
Meanwhile, at the second IJF Grand Prix of 2015 in Tbisili, Georgia, the British team fought hard but failed to progress against tough opposition. Jan Gosiewski (-73kg) took 7th place, earning a place in repecharge after defeating Germany’s Christopher Voelk and Abdelrahman Mohamed of Egypt (video below) in the preliminaries, only to lose out on penalties to Georgian, Zviad Kapanadze, in the -73kg quarter final.
