Destination Judo to cycle across Peru for charity
August 05, 2015
In November this year coaches and parents from Destination Judo will depart on an epic journey, cycling across the length of Peru to raise money for charity.
Marc Preston, Mark Poole, Colin Woods, Steven Turnbull, Peter Robertson, Stuart Pitt and Jason McEvoy will start their six day challenge at the ruins of the ancient city of Machu Pichu. From there they will cycle along the Scared Valley of the Incas and through the Andres. They will then start their descent into the Amazon basin before finishing their journey in the Cloud Forest.
The Destination Judo team have a history of impressive fund raising initiatives. In 2013 they managed to raise an incredible £42,000 to fund and equip the building of an orphanage in Tanzania for Sarah’s Promise. Last year Marc Preston and three judo dads climbed Killamanjaro to raise additional funds to furnish the orphanage further.
The monies raised from the trip across Peru will go towards a second orphanage in Tanzania and the Nicola Murray Foundation. The foundation is aimed at funding research to improve detection, treatment, services for young woman with ovarian cancer.
“I have not ridden a bike since I was 12”, said Marc Preston ahead of the trip.
“As someone who enjoys his home comforts this expedition is a great way to get out of my comfort zone and to raise money for two very worthy causes”.
