British Judo Cadets set for European Championships
June 26, 2019
The European Cadet Championships are due to start tomorrow in Warsaw and British Judo have 14 stars of tomorrow hoping to perform well and gain valuable experience that will aid their progression through to the Junior and Senior ranks.
The Championships, which run from Thursday 27th – Sunday 30th June in the Polish capital form part of the British Judo Cadet ID list that is used to identify athletes for the GB Cadet Futures Training Camp which will be in October 2019. Around 10 cadets will travel to Tokyo to attend a training camp where they have a mixture of technical training at the Kodokan and at schools around Tokyo.
Mae Bostock (-48kg), who is set to compete on Thursday, was a bronze medallist at least years European Cadet Cup in Koper and was a member of the Cadet team that competed at the European Championships in 2018.
Artur Patemian (-55kg), was also present at the 2018 European Cadet Championships, will be hoping to improve upon his 5th place finish at the European Cadet Cup in Berlin earlier this year.
Friday sees 2018 European Cadet Cup silver medallist in Zagreb, Tatum Keen (-52kg) take to the mats, she too was a member of the 2018 European Cadet Championship team. Keen will be joined by Leah Grosvenor (-57kg) the 2018 European Cadet Cup bronze medallist in Fuengirola and European Cadet Championship 2018 representative.
Tim Ellis, Performance Pathway Manager said: ‘The Cadet Europeans is the first time Cadets will experience competing as part of GB Judo. From start to finish this competition is a collaboration between Home Nations and GB which creates a fantastic experience for the Cadet Athletes. The opportunity to compete in an event of this stature will assist a young athlete to feel comfortable when they compete at Junior or Senior Europeans or Worlds.
From a GB perspective coming away with a result or medal is not necessarily the priority at this stage, but to perform to the best of their ability and leave everything on the mat is. Of course a medal is nice but athletes and coaches are looking long term and can use this Championships as a building block towards Paris 2024 or Los Angeles 2028.’
Competition is due to start at 9am GMT with the elimination rounds, Repechage and Semi-finals.
Final Block is due to start at 3:30pm GMT*
