2021 English Closed Championships Announced for September!

Following the publication of our “Safe Return to Events” guidance yesterday, the England Judo team are excited to announce the 2021 England Closed Judo Championships is due to take place in September!

The first English Closed Championships is due to take place on 4th-5th September 2021 at the SportsDock at UEL.

This event will be used to select fighters for the REDS and ETD Squad 2021/2022. Therefore, all fighters hoping to be selected for those squads must enter the event. Entry forms will be available shortly, but basic details for the event can be found below:

  • Date:
    • Minors and Pre-Cadets Saturday 4th September
    • Cadets and Juniors Sunday 5th September
  • Location: SportsDock, UEL, University Way, London, E16 2RD
  • Minimum Grades:
    • Minors: 4th Mon
    • Pre-Cadets: 7th Mon
    • Cadets: 10th Mon
    • Juniors: 13th Mon/2nd Kyu
  • Judogi
    • Minors and Pre-Cadets White Judogi only
    • Cadets and Juniors White and Blue Judogi required

All athletes interested in competing must adhere to the British Judo Event’s team policy for returning to competitions.

Return to Competition Protocol

  • Under 18s (YOB: 2011 – 2003: Minors, Pre-Cadets, Cadets & Juniors)
    • Return to unrestricted Judo – 17th May 2021
    • 6 weeks of training with a minimum 10 hours Judo in total evidenced
  • Over 18s (YOB: 2002 with Elite exemption: Juniors)
    • Return to unrestricted Judo training with elite exemption at ETDC/ETD – 22nd March 2021
    • 6 weeks of training with a minimum 10 hours Judo in total evidenced
  • Over 18s (YOB: 2002 without Elite exemption: Juniors)
    • Return to unrestricted Judo training – 19th July 2021
    • 6 weeks of training with a minimum 10 hours Judo in total evidenced
    • Due to Personal or Club circumstances, it may not be possible to evidence 6 weeks of training with a minimum 10 hours Judo in total. In this instance, it is not possible to enter this event, however a co-option application should be made to be considered for the ETD squad. Alternatively, you may wait to compete at the British Championships.
