Toyko Roadshow Launches

Last week, the British Judo Toyko Roadshow got off to a flying start with several masterclass taking place across the country with GB’s Olympic Squad. The first stop in a series of masterclass events across the Nation was at St Albans Judo Club with Gemma Howell.

Our athletes delivered masterclasses to judoka off all ages, providing not only expert guidance, but also an unforgettable experience, especially for our next generation of Olympic athletes.

Shudan Wellingborough Judo Club were lucky enough to have Olympic Bronze Medalist Chelsie Giles host a masterclass event last Friday. Chelsie Giles claimed Team GB’s first medal of the Tokyo Olympics with bronze in the women’s -52kg event. On the mat Chelsie soon got the young judoka engaged and working hard with a series of exercises to help develop their skills. Chelsie then led a Q&A session where participants asked her questions about her Judo journey and of course, if they could have a picture with Chelsie’s Toyko Bronze medal.

The following day, the excitement was building up at Kingsley School Judo Club as they waited for the arrival of Lucy Renshall. Lucy competed in the -63kg Category in Tokyo after losing to home nation fighter Miki Tashiro. Kingsley School Judo Club also had the excitement of opening their new Dojo of which, Lucy had the honour of cutting the ribbon, officially declaring the new Dojo open.

Our Toyko Roadshow continues this week with visits from Lucy Renshall at Moonrakers Judo Club, Gemma Howell at Westcroft Judo Club NORK and Ashley McKenzie at Croydon Judo Club.
