British Judo Teams Up With “Get Set Tokyo” for Schools Challenge

British Judo have partnered with British Olympic Association (BOA) and British Paralympic Association (BPA)’s youth engagement programme “Get Set Tokyo” to launch a series of school-based challenges designed to engage and challenge school kids across the nation.

“Get Set Tokyo” was originally created as the official London 2012 education programme, to deliver against Lord Coe’s vision to use the Games to inspire a generation of young people.

The programme aims to:

  • inspire young people to fulfil their potential and maintain healthy, active lifestyles
  • give all young people the chance to learn about and live the Olympic Values of friendship, excellence and respect and the Paralympic Values of inspiration, determination, courage and equality
  • build excitement about Team GB and ParalympicsGB, using the Olympic and Paralympic Games as a hook for learning and participation.

Get Set is a flexible, cross-curricular programme, which uses the Values to help young people fulfil their potential in all walks of life. Lots of schools and youth groups use the programme to support their PE and sport offer but it’s just as relevant to the arts, PSHE, geography, leadership and volunteering and so on…

Get Set recently launched British Judo’s challenges to their extensive database of schools across the country with the winner claiming a free judo session for their school.

Schools have until 12th November to complete at least one challenge to be entered into the prize draw to win!

“We are thrilled to be working alongside “Get Set Tokyo”! When we contacted them initially, they were thrilled to add judo to their portfolio of sports to engage with younger audiences. We are excited to see how the initiative progresses over the coming months!” said Nick Shepherd, Regional Support Officer.

Alongside this, we will shortly be arranging a number of school engagement events in the London area of the country designed to introduce the sport of judo to a number of schools. Stay tuned for more information about this initiative!
