Northern Ireland Open Championship round up

After two years Northern Ireland Judo was able to host the Open Championships!
Sponsored by the City of Derry Airport, Foyle Arena in the city of London Derry hosted the Northern Ireland Open on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th April 2022. A total of 420 competitors took to the mat to win the title of champion in their division.
This event took a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however April 2022 was the first event after Covid-19 restrictions. The Northern Ireland Open, saw competitors from the UK, Ireland, Netherlands and Estonia representing their nation in their weight division.
Feedback from the open championship so far has been fantastic. The atmosphere around Foyle Arena on both days were electric, with the sportsmanship on show was impeccable. Throughout the event the standard of Judo was elite.
Russell Brown, Northern Ireland Judo Federation Chairman said “To see the mats in the Foyle Arena as busy as they were over the two days was fantastic, and we were genuinely lifted by the entry levels we had with our first ranking event taking place post Covid lockdown”
