Upcoming Dan Grades at Samurai Judo Club

Players looking for promotion points to 1st dan and above have three exciting possibilities coming up at Samurai Judo Club in Kidderminster, Worcestershire.

On June 4th, the club holds their annual Ladies Open, an event that has been going for many years. This year limited to 1st kyu and above only and including both senior and masters’ categories. Last year this event, attracted 45 players of 1st kyu to 4th dan grades and is one of only a few women-only competitions in the British Judo Association. Players get lots of contests including open categories and large pools, which means plenty of opportunities for points!

June 18th is the men’s turn, this time seniors and masters up to 1st kyu. This event has a green and under section as well. Please be aware that this event is likely to be over-subscribed and early entry is essential.

The biggest event of all is the dan grading on July 10th. The last men’s grading at Samurai in February attracted over 60 players of all grades from 1st kyu to 4th dan and players were able to be promoted on the day to 1st dan, 2nd dan, 3rd dan, 4th dan and 5th dan. The last ladies grading in October last year, despite being soon after the return to judo and clashing with several significant events, attracted over 20 ladies from 1st kyu to 2nd dan. This grading, being for both genders, is expected to attract even more. Please note that entry in advance is preferred for the grading (the competitions are entry in advance only) and is significantly cheaper. This way, the organisers can run the event much more efficiently. If you want your next dan grade, take the plunge and enter!
