Looking ahead to the British National Team Championships

Samurai Judo Club will host the British National Team Championships 2022 on Saturday 2nd July at the Walsall Sports Centre, University of Wolverhampton. The Championships will see British Judo Areas and Home Nations battle it out to be crowned National Team Champions.
2019 Senior Champions Scotland return to defend their men’s title but will face competition from 2018 Champions London and 2019 silver medallists Southern area. 2018 Bronze medallists Midland area will also be in action.
Recently selected for Team England at the upcoming Commonwealth Games, Sam Hall and Ashley McKenzie will be in action for the Midland and London teams respectively. Could we get an early taste of the Commonwealth Games -60kg final?
Scotland also have two judoka fighting this weekend who will be competing at Birmingham ’22. Finlay Allan and Billy Rodman.
2018 Senior Female Champions Midland Area will be looking to claim back their title. They will face competition from silver medallists Northern Home Counties and bronze medallists London and Southern areas.
Fresh from her recent European Cadet Championship bronze medal, Charlotte Jenman will compete for the Southern Area, whilst Tokyo Olympian Prisca Awiti-Alcaraz competes for London alongside Team England’s Acelya Toprak.
Team Scotland’s Kirsty Marsh and Rachel Tytler will represent Scotland. Athletes who have previously competed at the British National Team Championships have gone onto have individual success as part of GB Judo.
Juniors and Cadets
Scotland have claimed gold at the last three Championships in both the male and female categories. They will enter this weekend as the number 1 seeds but will face competition from the Southern area who have had to settle for silver on the last three occasions.
2019 bronze medallists North-Western area and 2018 bronze medallists Western area will also be ones to watch in the men’s category. Whilst 2018 bronze medallists London area and Western areas will feature in the women’s competition.
Pre Cadets and Minors
2018 male champions London area enter as top seeds ahead of silver medallists Northern Home Counties with bronze medallists, North-West and Scotland.
For the female category, the Southern area enter as the team to beat having won the title in 2018 and 2016. 2017 champions Scotland will be pushing them hard alongside 2018 silver medallists Northern Home Counties. 2018 bronze medallists London area will also feature.
Action for the British National Team Championships will take place on Saturday 2nd July, with the weigh-in times starting at 8:30 am.
Competitors in Junior and Cadets weigh-in will take place from 8:30 am – 9:00 am
Pre-Cadet and Minor weigh-in at 9:30 am – 10:00 am
Senior teams weigh in at 10:30 am – 11:30 am.
