Pacitti takes 5th in Latvia at Riga Senior European Cup

Competing in his first international competition since the Winterthur Senior European Cup, Danial Pacitti was first drawn against Swedish judoka Leon Svalberg.

Pacitti won his first round of the -73kg category and went on to fight Artem Khomula from Ukraine. The contest went the distance but the Ukrainian judoka progressed to the next round after a waza-ari score.

Dropping down into the repechage round, Pacitti was next up against Edoardo Maria Di Pietrantonio from Italy. The GB judoka controlled the fight and secured a second-round repechage fight after two waza-aris for ippon which he also went on to win against Roberts Javorskis from Latvia.

In his bronze medal contest, Pacitti faced Sagiv Sahar from Israel. The 25-year old gave it his best in the bronze fight, but the Israeli judoka got the better of the Brit and scooped up the bronze medal with ippon.

The GB judoka took a respectable fifth place in Latvia.

Also competing at the Riga Senior European Cup were Joshua Bell and Del Imrie.

Bell was first drawn up against Eylon Barshashet from Israel. Unfortunately for Bell, it was a short-lived contest and the Israeli threw for ippon securing a place in the next round, eliminating Bell from the competition.

On the final day of the competition, Del Imrie was the only GB judoka to take to the mat and the -90kg judoka was up against Kristofer Klen Kaljulaid from Estonia in his first-round contest. Imrie who also last competed in the Winterthur Senior European Cup had a tough first-round contest and the Estonian judoka took the win eliminating Imrie from the competition.

The next competition to take place will be the Guayaquil World Juniors Championship, taking place between 10th August and 14th August 2022.
