Powell and Reid in action at World Championships

The penultimate day of the IJF World Championships saw two GB judoka in action in the -78kg category.
Natalie Powell (Club: Irfon JC; Coach: Mark Earl) and Emma Reid (Redbridge JC; Steve Sandy) both had opening-round byes before fighting in the second round.
2017 World Championship bronze medallist Powell made her 7th appearance on the Word Championship stage whilst Reid made her World Championship debut in Tashkent.
Powell defeated Hafsa Yatim (MAR) in round two before facing the Olympic Champion Shori Hamada (JPN). Hamada pinned Powell in newaza and forced her opponent to concede the contest.
Reid meanwhile was defeated in her opening contest against Zhenzhao Ma (CHN). Ma registering a waza-ari score in Golden Score to progress.

Lucy Renshall (SKK; Pete Blood) – 7th
