Day three round up from World Judo Masters

On the final day of the World Judo Masters in Budapest, three GB judoka were in action.

Jamal Petgrave (Westcroft JC; Andy Ede) had a tough draw, facing World Championships medallists in his opening two contests.

Petgrave overcame his opening-round contest against World Championship bronze medallist Marcus Nyman (SWE) after the Swedish judoka was awarded a third penalty shido with 10 seconds of the contest remaining.

Petgrave then faced Tokyo Olympic Champion and World Championship silver medallist Lasha Bekauri (GEO) in Round Two. Unfortunately, Petgrave was unable to produce a further upset and exited the competition in the second round.

Both Natalie Powell (Irfon) and Emma Reid (Redbridge JC; Steve Sandy) bowed out in the opening round of the -78kg category. Both faced French opponents in their respective round-one contests as Powell was drawn against 8th seed Madeleine Malonga whilst Reid faced 2023 Paris Grand Slam silver medallist Chloe Buttigieg.
