Judo Included in 2026 Commonwealth Games Programme

British Judo are delighted to announce that judo has been formally confirmed as part of the 10-sport programme for the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games, due to be hosted in Glasgow.

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has officially confirmed Glasgow as the host city of the 2026 Commonwealth Games this morning. The 23rd edition of the Commonwealth Games will take place in Scotland from Thursday 23 July to Sunday 2 August 2026, returning to the city 12 years after the hugely successful 2014 Commonwealth Games, and marking the second consecutive Games on British soil.

Glasgow 2026 will feature a 10-sport programme which will include Athletics and Para Athletics (Track & Field), Swimming and Para Swimming, Artistic Gymnastics, Track Cycling and Para Track Cycling, Netball, Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting, Boxing, Bowls, Para Bowls, 3×3 Basketball and 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball, alongside judo.

It will mark the fifth time that judo has appeared at the Commonwealth Games, building on the success of previous campaigns in 1990, 2002, 2014, and 2022, with the Home Nations looking to better their tally of 21 medals from the Birmingham edition of the Games.

Judo’s inclusion in the 2026 Commonwealth Games is a significant achievement for the entire community. As one of just ten sports chosen for this streamlined edition, its selection reflects the sport’s rising popularity and the strength of its presence across the Commonwealth nations.

British Judo Chief Executive Andrew Scoular said:

“We are thrilled to see judo once again included as part of the Commonwealth Games programme on home soil. The atmosphere was electric in Birmingham in 2022, and we are all patiently waiting to experience another Scottish-led Games.”

“Our Home Nations have a rich history of success at the Games, and I am sure work will commence shortly to begin preparations for the event.

“We hope that the Commonwealth Games will not only bring the British Judo community together but will deliver a fantastic event and showcase Scotland at its best.”
