Medal Mania: British Judoka Secure Five Medals in Riga and Porec

British judoka flexed their muscles on the international stage this weekend, securing multiple medals at both the Riga Senior European Cup and the Porec Millennium Team Cadet European Cup.

Riga Senior European Cup

Lanina Solley (Camberley Judo Club) got her season off to a flyer by topping the podium in Latvia following an accomplished day of judo in the -57kg competition.

The victory marked her second Senior European Cup Gold medal after a string of impressive results, topped off with victory over Poland’s Kinga Chmielewska in the final.

She was joined on the podium by both Finlay Allan (-66kg, Camberley Judo Club) and Tomi Imrie (-63kg, Jidel Judo/JudoScotland) with both claiming Silver medals on the day.

Allen could have been forgiven for being a bit fatigued throughout the day following a long opening contest that went to Golden Score, but he found the strength to register Ippon after nearly eight minutes of the contest. The win gave Allen momentum to navigate through a tricky division, but he couldn’t quite find a way past home favourite and former two-time Under 23 European Championships medalist Anthony De Angelis in the final.

Imrie was making her Senior European Cup debut in the -63kg division and what a way to open your account with a first Silver medal on the European circuit. A string of excellent performances saw her defeat a number of former European tour medallists, only to come unstuck against Croatia’s Nina Cvjetko in the final.

Notable shout outs to Katie Mills (-63kg, Camberley Judo Club), Holly Devall (-70kg), Logan Campbell (-81kg, Camberley Judo Club) who all secured Fifth placed finishes with Rory Tyrrell (-81kg, Camberley Judo Club) in Seventh.

Porec Millennium Team Cadet European Cup

Coen Gilbert (-50kg, Whitburn Judo Club) and Lenny Tancock (-73kg, Bishops Stortford Judokwai) both took home Silver medals from Croatia to round off an impressive haul of medals from the British squad.

The Silver medal from Gilbert marked his second of the year in the -50kg division following a Bronze medal from Slovakia last month.

Tancock will be relishing seeing what the rest of 2025 has to offer following a landmark weekend which saw him take home his first medal from European competition.

Sara Coni finished with a Seventh place in the -44kg division.
