JudoScotland (JS) Performance Pathway aims to develop players capable of achieving Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth success, whilst giving valuable life experiences. The pathway is split into five programmes;
The JS Talent Development Programme identifies players at a young aged 11-16 who have the potential to progress through the JS Performance Pathway. Individuals are invited into this programme through their success at the domestic JS Grand Prix series and the Scottish Age Bands. These individuals will need to show a commitment to their club training and the TDP sessions.
The Talent Development Programme – Pathway, is open to Cadets aged 14-17. The annual application process requires individuals to undergo an assessment of training behaviour and be identified in the events points’ matrix.
Athletes on this programmes are required to attend all TDP weekend camps and a minimum of one TDP regional session. As part of the programmes individuals will receive a number of subsidised benefits form team ware to trips.
The National JNR/SNR squad is open to athletes over 16 who are positioned in the top 16 in the GB JNR/SNR ranking list. Athletes are required to attend sessions at the NTC a minimum of 4 times a month and are required to represent Scotland at various events.
As with all JS programmes athletes are required to maintain a high standard of behaviour and conduct. As part of the squad, judoka will receive a number of benefits including subsidised domestic, and possibly international, events dependent on performance level.
The JS Transition Programme (TP) is a semi-centralised training and competition programme for performance athletes aged 17-23, based at the JS National Training Centre (NTC).
Athletes eligible for the Transition Programme are either current members of the GB WCPP/GB Academy or able to complete a rigorous annual application, interview and assessment process.
As with all JS programmes athletes are required to maintain a high standard of behaviour and will be committing to an agreed training programme delivered at the JS NTC. In return to their commitment to excellence, players will receive a package of support from JudoScotland.
The JS Performance Programme contains Scotland’s elite judoka and is supported by sportscotland and the sportscotland institute of sport. The programme judoka compete on an international level, including World and European Championships, IJF and EJU tournaments and the Olympic Games.
As a member of this programme athletes will need to prove their ability to qualify for the next major senior championships and demonstrate a commitment to an agreed training programme at JS NTC.
As with all JS programmes athletes are required to maintain a high standard of behaviour and will be committing to an agreed training programme delivered at the JS NTC. In return to their commitment to excellence, players will receive a package of support from JudoScotland.
