Glasgow 2016 Player Profiles: -78kg, +78kg, -90kg


We continue our series of players profiles for the 2016 Glasgow European Open with a look at players from the -78kg, +78kg and -90kg weight categories.



Age: 21

Best Result: Bronze 2015 British Open, London, United Kingdom; Silver 2015 Athens Junior European Cup, Athens, Greece.

The current senior British champion will be looking to make the step up at senior level. With both Senior and Junior European Cup medals to her name, Reid has international medal winning experience to fall back on in Glasgow


Age: 21

Best Result:  Silver 2014 Junior World Championships, Fort Lauderdale, USA; Bronze 2016 Zagreb Grand Prix, Zagreb, Croatia.

Camara is another judoka coming to Glasgow with an eye on making up ground on higher ranked teammates. With two-time Olympic medallist Audrey Tcheumeo and Madeleine Malonga ahead of her it won’t be easy but with five Grand Prix and Continental Open medals to her name already she’ll be a tough opponent for the -78kg field in Glasgow



Age: 20

Best Result: Gold 2016 Coimbra Junior European Cup, Coimbra, Portugal

Boyle is sure to have the backing of the vocal Glasgow crowd with the Carluke judoka making her second European Open appearance at the Emirates after a seventh in 2014. Boyle helped the Junior Women’s Team to a fifth place finish at the Junior European Judo Championships in Malaga last month.


Age: 22

Best Result: Gold 2015 Casablanca African Open, Casablanca, Morocco

Heavyweight judoka Marchio will have the benefit of being top seed in her category and has competed in a whole host of Continental Opens. She has also medalled at European Under-23s in 2014 as well as the World Military Championships in 2013



Age: 25

Best Result: Gold 2015 Buenos Aires Pan American Open, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Camberley judoka will be looking to back up his top seeding when he steps on the mat in Glasgow. A multiple medallist at Continental Open level, Chamberlain won bronze in the Emirates Arena last year and he will be hoping to improve upon that in 2016.


Age: 21

Best Result: Gold 2016 Tallin European Open, Tallinn, Estonia.

Assis is one of 30 Brazilian judoka entered for Glasgow and he goes in on form after his first senior gold in Tallinn. The -90kg fighter has also medalled at the World University Games as well as the Cadet and Junior PanAmerican Championships

The 2016 Glasgow European Judo Open on 15th October 2016 at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow will be the British public’s first chance to watch some international judo after the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
