Adaptive Judo Squad Strike Gold at Nihon Dutch Open

The Great Judo Adaptive Judo squad continued their fine international form as they scooped a twelve medals at the Nihon Open this weekend in the Netherlands.

The Dutch competition was celebrating its tenth anniversary and to mark the landmark occasion, competition organisers included a team competition alongside the standard weight categories, much to the delight of the athletes. Commemorative trophies were distributed to all excitable athletes to mark the anniversary alongside the team event.

The Great Britain squad duly delivered in the event as they topped the podium following an excellent weekend on the mat!

Skye Westwood once again spearheaded the team with Gold alongside brother Marshall Westwood and fellows Brits Shaun McKellar, William James, Tom Mawdsley, Mikey Lomas and Chris Murphy.

Ben Thompson and Stan Walker added to the Great Britain haul with silver medals in their respective categories with Shaun Banks, Stuart Jackman and Joe Horne claiming Bronze.

Adaptive Judo Lead Kerry Tansey was thrilled with the squad’s efforts over the weekend: “I cannot fault the commitment and drive of this squad. The enthusiasm that they show for the sport is infectious and see them excelling in competition across Europe is fantastic to see.”
