The British Olympic Association (BOA) has announced the full list of 130 athletes and 56 coaches from across 44 sport disciplines who will participate in Team GB’s Olympic Ambition Programme during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The Programme, which is being supported by Proud Partner of London 2012 Lloyds TSB, will give the young and talented British athletes and coaches a unique opportunity to experience the Olympic Games environment at first hand this summer.
Three of British Judo’s brightest judoka have been selected as Junior World bronze medallist Hayley Willis, 2011 European Cadets Champion Katie-Jemima Yeats-Brown and Junior European silver medallist Max Stewart will feature alongside British Judo development coach Darren Warner.
The Programme focuses on preparing the athletes and coaches to compete at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games or the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. It aims to provide personal development and inspiration to the participants and produce a performance legacy for Team GB from the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The participants will travel to London where they will visit the Olympic Village, watch two Olympic competition sessions and experience the atmosphere at Team GB House in Westfield Stratford City.
Team GB Chef de Mission and British Olympic Association CEO Andy Hunt said: “The Olympic Ambition Programme is a key element of our legacy planning for future Olympic Games, both summer and winter. The young athletes and coaches participating in the programme will experience the unique atmosphere and environment of the Olympic Games and gain a very special behind the scenes insight with Team GB. We hope theProgramme will provide them with added inspiration and knowledge to further develop their international sporting careers and compete successfully for Team GB at future Olympic Games.”
Max Stewart, who last time out won all eight of his contests at the 2012 National Team Championships, said: “I feel very inspired and have already had two great days in Loughborough as part of the programme where I met the likes of skeleton Olympic gold medallist Amy Williams.”
