Today marks the start of the IBSA Judo World Cup in Tbilisi, where a team of five British visually impaired judokas hope to make a strong impression.
The IBSA Judo World Cup event in Tbilisi, Georgia is the VI team’s first major event of 2025 and of the LA 2028 paralympic cycle.
Kirsten Taylor (Tayside Judo) is the sole female athlete representing Great Britain at this event and will be competing in the +70kg J2 category. The Scottish judoka arrives in Tbilisi in top form, having recently claimed a silver medal at the VI German Open last month.
Leading off the men’s team, Miles Soloman (Oxford Judo) will take to the mat in the -70kg J2 division, fresh off a gold medal performance at the VI German Open. Paris 2024 Paralympian Evan Molloy (Devizes Judo) is set to take on the -81kg J2 category, while fellow Paris Paralympian Daniel Powell (Phoenix Judo) will be contesting the -95kg J1 division, both of whom secured gold in their respective categories in Heidelberg last month.
Rounding out the squad, another Paralympian, Jack Hodgson (Grimsby Judo), who earned silver in Heidelberg, will be competing in the +95kg J2 division, completing a formidable British lineup in Tbilisi.
Good luck to all our athletes competing in Georgia!
