Cadets set for European Championships

The Cadet European Championships get underway in Odivelas, Portugal, tomorrow, with 15 GB judoka in action over the next three days.
Thursday 22nd – 10:00 (BST) Preliminary Rounds | 16:00 Final Block
Jesse Chraniuk (High Wycombe Judo Centre) enters the -55kg category seeded 6th following bronze medal wins at the Gyor and Fuengirola European Cups. He will be joined by Luka Gigilashvili (Palavani Judo Club).
Chraniuk will face either Filipp Shchekotin (EST) or Marko Jorgic (SRB) following an opening round bye whilst Gigilashvili has been drawn against Nikita Malets (UKR).
In the -44kg category, Eva Ewing (Sportif) has an opening round bye before facing 8th seed Sara Salvadori (ITA) in round two, whilst -48kg fighter Amelia Alder (Judo Club Osaka) will face Victoria Bilba (MDA) in her opening round contest.
Luke Tannian (Bradley Stoke) is in action in the -50kg category and has an opening-round contest against Iaroslav Ailoae (MDA).
Ross McWatt (Garioch Judo) completes the team in action on the opening day. The -60kg judoka has an opening round bye, before facing Rufus Barske (GER) in round two.
Friday 23rd – 10:00 (BST) Preliminary Rounds | 16:00 Final Block
Irakli Goginashvili (Palavani Judo Club) has had an impressive 2023 that has seen him reach medal contests in all his competitions. Entering as 3rd seed, he will face Ofek Dvir (ISR) in round two following an opening round bye.
Goginashvili is joined in the -66kg category by Peter Davies (Ealing Judo Club) who has been drawn against Nikolaos Gkinis (GRE) in the opening round.
Chloe Link (Relentless Judo) and Kenady Raine (Tees Valley Judo) will compete in the -57kg category. Link enters as 7th seed following back-to-back silver medals at the Gyor and Fuengirola Cadet European Cups whilst Raine claimed silver at the Naples Cadet European Cup earlier this year.
Link will face Tsvetelina Pavlova (BUL) whilst Raine has been drawn against Itsaso Madariaga-Huegun (ESP) in the opening round.
Derek Marczak (Judo Sensei London) and Isaac Hope (Bredakwai Judo Academy) will both be in action in the -73kg category.
Marczak won silver at the Fuengirola Cadet European Cup earlier this year and faces Vygirdas Narkus (LTU) in the opening round, whilst Bremen Masters bronze medallist, Hope, faces Bulcsu Pinter (HUN).
Welsh judoka Lola Hodson (Dragons Judo Academy) competes in the -52kg category and will face India Serafini (ITA) in the opening round.
Saturday 24th – 10:00 (BST) Preliminary Rounds | 16:00 Final Block
Two judoka will be in action on the final day as Julia Marczak (Judo Sensei London) and Noah Black (Clyde Judo) compete in the -70kg and -90kg categories, respectively.
Marczak enters as 5th seed following a gold and silver medal at the Gyor and Fuengirola Cadet European Cups. She has an opening round bye before facing either Hadar Elkabaz (ISR) or Coco-Mia Baur (GER) in round two.
Black meanwhile, will face 8th seed Atilla Dinc (TUR) in his opening-round contest.
Unfortunately, Maya Aubert-Gomez (Ealing Judo Club) has withdrawn due to injury.
