Double honour for Kendal Judo Club head coach Mike Liptrot
March 26, 2012
Kendal Judo Club head coach Mike Liptrot has been recognised for his great service to the Olympic sport with a double honour.
Kendal Town Council presented the widely-respected coach with the Wainwright Award as an outstanding embodiment of the pride and spirit in Kendal by encouraging young people to achieve their potential through sport and helping to improve the facilities in the town.
The award and a £250 was presented by Mayor of Kendal Jonathan Brook to acknowledge Mike’s work over many years in achieving particular recognition for Kendal as a national and international centre for judo.
The 49-year-old has been selected to carry the Olympic Torch as it goes through the streets of Kendal in June.
A statement read: “Mike Liptrot has been inspirational in the judo world as a member of Kendal Judo Club for 42 years helping to develop the Kendal Dojo and bringing the sport’s brightest talents from around the globe to the town.”
