EJU honours for British Judo luminaries

The European Judo Union (EJU) recognised the British Judo Association at their Congress in Budapest, Hungary as two of the country’s most accomplished judo figures received awards.

British Judo’s two-time Olympic medallist Kate Howey, who was the Olympic women’s lead coach for a successful London 2012, was recognised with an EJU Coach Award.  

Howey, an eight-time senior European medallist, coached Gemma Gibbons to silver in London having herself claimed British Judo’s last Olympic medal in Sydney 12 years ago.  

“It’s nice to receive the award but the whole team deserve credit and I’m looking forward to the next four years,” said Howey.

British Judo President and 10th Dan George Kerr become an honorary member of the EJU to acknowledge his years of immense service to the sport.
