Final Stage Selections for the European Championships

GB Judo are pleased to finalise the team selection for the upcoming 2023 European Championships in Montpellier, France, from 3rd – 5th November.
The first stage selections took place in August, with nine judoka selected. The team has now been completed with the addition of eight judoka.
Charlie Young (Ryecroft Judokwai; Paul Young) and Samuel Hall (Ryecroft JC; Fitzroy Davies) will both compete in the -66kg category. Young has been in excellent form on the European circuit, winning his first title at the Rome European Open back in March. He backed this up with a 7th place finish at the Dushanbe Grand Prix before a bronze medal at the Prague European Open.
Hall, who has made the step back up to the -66kg category, has also impressed on the European circuit this year with gold medals at the Sarajevo and Prague European Opens.
Eric Ham (Glossop JC; Geoff Ham) will compete in his first senior European Championships. The -73kg judoka picked up a bronze medal at the Sarajevo European Open last month.
Stuart McWatt (Gairoch JC; Stuart McWatt) has secured his selection in the -90kg category with back-to-back medals at the Prague European Open (gold) and Malaga European Cup (bronze).
With two silver medals to his name from the Sofia and Rome European Opens, Harry Lovell-Hewitt (Stroud JC; Richard Neale), will compete in the -100kg category whilst in the +100kg category, Wesley Greenidge (Enfield JC; George Hyslop) has been selected following medals at the Warsaw, Tallinn and Sarajevo European Opens.
In the womens team, Nekoda Smythe-Davis (Ealing JC; Jo Crowley) and Lele Nairne (Bradley Stoke; Pete Douglas) have been selected in the -57kg category, whilst Acelya Toprak (Metro JC/ Relentless Judo; Darren Hawney/ Fitzroy Davies) has been named as a reserve.
