GB JUDO PREVIEW: 23 – 24 September 2017

The competitions are coming thick and fast for the GB Judo squad through the Autumn swing as the next stop on the circuit sees a squad of thirteen take to the mat in Belgrade, Serbia in search for medals.

Lucy Renshall (-63kg) will certainly be one to watch out for as she makes her return to European competition following a period of seven months out injured. She was impressive on her return to the mat at the beginning of September as she took home the domestic Heart of England title in Walsall.

Renshall has Grand Prix medals to her name following a successful junior career and will be looking to make the step up to replicate her past form.

Dan Powell (-73kg) and Acelya Toprak (-57kg) have certainly have momentum them following recent medal wins at the European Championships. Toprak was impressive in claiming a silver medal in the individual competition while Powell was instrumental in helping the Male squad claim a deserved bronze medal in the team competition.

Powell has had a consistent 2017 season with bronze medals in Junior competition in Paks and St Petersburg while Toprak can point to success in Leibnitz and St Petersburg as the driving force behind her season.

The likes of Aiden Moffat (-73kg), Jack Smith (-73kg) and Abbi Blackie (-52kg) will be using the competition as way of gaining more experience at Senior European Opens this weekend.
