GB Judo Weekend Preview 08 – 09 April 2017
April 07, 2017
GB Judo’s Cadet and Junior judoka are also in action this weekend in Italy and Czech Republic from Saturday 8 April and Sunday 9 April.
Lignano Junior European Cup, Italy
Three GB Juniors will be fighting this weekend in Lignano all on day one of the competition, Saturday 8 April.
Olivia Piechota (-48kg), current British Junior -52kg champion, is back at her usual weight category and looking to pick up her second Junior European Cup medal.
She will be joined on the mat that day by Welsh judoka Steph Walker (-57kg) and Joshua O’Connor (-73kg). Walker won a bronze medal at the La Coruna Junior European Cup last year and will be hoping to bring that to the mat in Italy. Gendros’s O’Connor displayed really good form at the International Masters Bremen last month as he finished just outside the top eight in his weight.
Competition starts at 0800 UK time with the draw on ippon.org and live coverage through eju.net. Follow @BritishJudo on Twitter for end of day medal updates
Teplice Cadet European Cup, Czech Republic
There is a sizeable GB cadet entry for the sixth Cadet European Cup of 2017 with 36 judoka expected to step on the mat and all four home nations represented.
Amy Platten (-44kg) and Yasmin Javadian (-52kg) will be looking to continue the form that has seen them both medal twice this year at Cadet European Cup level. Highland Budokan’s Josie Steele (-57kg) is also in action a month on from her silver medal in Zagreb.
Welsh judoka Dan Rabbitt (-55kg), silver medallist in Fuengirola, is also back in action and gunning for medals while Archie Platt (-66kg) will be aiming to back up an impressive fifth place from Bremen.
