GB Judo Weekend Review 27 – 28 October 2018
October 30, 2018
GB Cadet judoka enjoyed a successful weekend at the Koper Cadet European Cup in Slovenia on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 October.
Georga Halloumas took home silver at -70kg following a series of impressive performances.
Her first two contests against Emma Petrolo (ITA) and Lucija Glumac (CRO) lasted under a minute with Halloumas winning both by ippon.
Her semi-final against Michele Johner (SUI) was a slightly tougher affair with Halloumas having conceded two shidos before finishing the contest with over two minutes on the clock.
The British fighter faced another Swiss judoka in the final but Delia Moira Vetterli proved too good on this occasion to leave Halloumas with silver, her first Cadet European Cup medal.
There were bronze medals for Mae Bostock (-44kg) and Callum Bennett (-55kg), their firsts at Cadet European Cup level.
Bostock saw off the challenge of Ana Maria Vladu (ROU) in her first contest before losing a close semi-final to Asia Avanzato (ITA) by a single waza-ari.
Dropping into the bronze medal fight, Bostock got over any disappointment to get the better of Adela Fiserova (CZE).
Bennett made his way through to the semi-finals thanks to some good performances in the early rounds.
Matteo Giordano (ITA) and Kurly Joris (SUI) had no answer to Bennett in his first two contests with the British judoka winning both by ippon.
He then lost a close semi-final to Italy’s Vincenzo Skenderi before pulling off a good win for bronze as he beat Vaclav Novacek (CZE) after a hard-fought contest.
