Olympic and Paralympic National Training Centre

The British Judo Olympic and Paralympic National Training Centre (NTC) is the home of the British Judo World-Class Performance Programme (WCPP).

Based in the heart of the West Midlands, British Judo’s NTC is centrally based at the University of Wolverhampton, Walsall Campus. Here our Junior, Paralympic and Olympic judoka train in a world-class fully-integrated, inclusive high-performance environment. Athletes utilise a plethora of expertise and opportunities on campus including a state-of-the-art dojo, strength and conditioning, sports science, sports medicine, educational opportunities and accommodation.

Britain’s best Judo coaches are based at the Walsall Campus; Judo’s Performance Director, Elite Performance Coaches, Sport Science and Medicine team are on-hand for athletes to access daily. Additionally we welcome regular guest coaches and professionals from across the globe to encourage our staff and athletes to constantly develop their best technique.

Working in partnership with the University of Wolverhampton’s Institute of Sport, our athletes use cutting edge services within Sport Science and Medicine to improve their skill set through support, testing and monitoring. Personalised performance plans are developed for our athletes with regular input and review from our expert support staff. This allows our coaching staff to meet the needs of our athletes in their training enabling fighters to reach their full potential.

The Dojo

The NTC is home to two Olympic-sized 10mx10m sprung floor contest areas, surrounded by a state-of-the-art fully interactive performance analysis system allowing our athletes to examine their performance and receive instant feedback from our team of experts. We have a strong network of local clubs which ensures our athletes have access to quality randori on a weekly basis at the NTC.

Strength and Conditioning and Sport Science

The NTC has a variety of outstanding strength and conditioning areas including a mat side area and a Strength and Conditioning suite. This has a range of high-quality equipment that athletes can access such as barbells, dumbbells, battle ropes, weight lifting platform, prowler sled, Concept 2 rowing machines and a Kaiser Functional Trainer. British Judo has a full time Strength and Conditioning coach that works with athletes to develop them physically.

The Centre has a full-time Performance Analyst working within the arena, using state of the art performance analysis software and facilities. Alongside staff excellence in Strength and Conditioning, Sports Science and Sports medicine, we ensure that all the needs of our athletes are met.

Accommodation

Within the Walsall Campus are residential opportunities for our athletes with dedicated accommodation close to the dojo. The accommodation is modern and secure, consisting of en-suite single rooms with shared dining areas and free high speed internet access. A range of additional services are also on the Walsall Campus such as an on-site shop, catering, laundrette and leisure facilities.
