GB judoka finding form at Welsh Open

Over 200 judoka stepped on the mat at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff for the 2018 Welsh Junior and Senior Open on Saturday 20 October.

There were four double gold medallists in Cardiff with Jasmine Hacker-Jones (-52kg), Annie Boby (-63kg), Michael Fryer (-66kg) (pictured) and Archie Platt (-73kg) all finishing on top of the medal rostrum at both Juniors and Seniors.

For Boby and Fryer, their performances in Cardiff means that they have now won the Junior title at three of the Home Nation tournaments in 2018 following on from golds at the Scottish and English Opens.

Hacker-Jones and Platt have now won the Welsh Open at Cadet, Junior and Senior level also.

Cailin Calder defended his Senior title from 2017 at -100kg but at every other weight category there was a change of gold medallists.

The -70kg category was hard fought with the Junior title going to Holly Jones before Kelly Petersen-Pollard gained revenge for a close loss earlier in the day to win Senior gold.
