Mon Grade
The Mon Grade system in judo is designed specifically for younger judoka, typically children and teenagers, to provide them with a structured and gradual progression through the ranks. Judoka are promoted to different coloured belts based on technical ability, knowledge and understanding as well as supplementary knowledge of Japanese terminology.
The Mon grade syllabus emphasises learning through play, developing fundamental judo skills, and understanding the principles of judo in a way that’s suitable for children.
Although there is no contest requirement in the Mon Grade system there is a progressively structured randori element at the higher grades.
