Giles takes bronze in Tashkent

Chelsie Giles claimed her second Grand Slam medal of the year as she took bronze on the opening day of the Tashkent Grand Slam.

Giles entered the competition in the second round where she defeated Shraddha Kadubal Chopade (IND) and Yeqing Zhu (CHN) to book her place in the quarter-finals.

Giles progressed to the Repechage following defeat to the Asian Junior Champion and eventual silver medallist.

Giles booked her place in the bronze medal contest with a Golden Score victory against Sofia Asvesta (CYP). Giles registered an ippon score with an O-uchi-gari.

In the bronze medal contest, Giles faced Khorloodoi Bishrelt (UAE). Giles picked up two early shidos but the penalty score was evened up during Golden Score. Bishrelt later went on to pick up a third shido, resulting in Giles claiming the bronze medal, her second of the 2024 season.
