John Henry GOWLAND – 3rd Dan – 1927-2013

It is with great sadness that we report John Henry GOWLAND (3rd Dan, 1983), founder of Basingstoke Judo and one of the founder members of the Southern Area, passed away peacefully on 1st June aged 85 years.

John had an extensive history in the sport having been practiced just alongside and been taught by some of the sport’s great names.

John founded Basingstoke Judo in 1965 and left a lasting legacy in the area.
