Kate Howey MBE Named Interim Performance Director

Following Nigel Donohue leaving his role at British Judo this week, we would like to announce that Kate Howey MBE has been named as Performance Director on an interim basis.

Kate brings a wealth of experience to the role, having represented Great Britain in judo across four Olympic Games and securing both bronze (1992, Barcelona) and silver (2000, Sydney) medals. Following her distinguished competitive career, she transitioned into coaching, dedicating over 20 years to nurturing talent at all levels.

For Kate, it marks one of the biggest honours of her career as she guides the team until a permanent successor to Nigel can be appointed.

“It is a great honour to step into the role following the excellent foundations that Nigel has left behind.”

“I look forward to working with the team and continuing the great work moving forwards as we strive for continued success across Great British Judo.”

Chief Executive Andrew Scoular was pleased that Kate has agreed to step into the role before a permanent Performance Director is appointed.

Kate will oversee the development and implementation of strategies to enhance the performance of British judokas on the international stage. Her extensive experience as both an athlete and a coach positions her uniquely to lead British Judo into a new era.”

“We will be shortly formalising the recruitment process for our new Performance Director but in the meantime, we are delighted that Kate has agreed to step up.”
