Obituary: John Dearden

British Judo is saddened to hear of the passing of John Dearden following a long illness at the age of 90.

John was a stalwart of the Eastern Judo Area and held numerous roles during his time, including being the area’s first President.

John was also a member of the BJA Inclusion Commission and assisted in the development of the Additional Needs grade promotion system and was a member of the Promotion Commission.

John also held the position of Easter Area Director of Examiners and was a Senior Examiner, a National B Referee, a Senior Recorder and a BJA Level 3 Coach in addition to being Chairman and Coach of the Thomas Deacon Judo Club plus Honorary Chairman of the Eastern Area.

John was a friend, coach, referee and mentor to many and without his help and guidance, the Eastern Area would not be in the position it is today.

The thoughts of everyone at British Judo are with John’s family and friends at this time.
