Preview: Berlin Junior European Cup
July 26, 2019
In our second preview of what is a huge weekend for our British Judo teams, we look ahead to the prestigious Berlin Junior European Cup taking place in Germany.
For many of our Juniors it will be their last chance to impress selectors ahead of European Junior Championship selection next month.
Kelly Petersen-Pollard (-70kg) and Josie Steele (-57kg) headline a large British Judo and England delegation that are making the journey to Germany.
Petersen-Pollard has been in scintillating form this year which has seen her win three gold and two silver medals from the five competitions she has entered. She will be hoping to replicate her medal winning form this weekend in Berlin.
Steele is another player in form, having medalled at her last four competitions, the last being gold at the Paks Junior European Cup to add to a silver and two bronze medals earlier in the year.
Sian Bobrowska (-48kg) will be hoping to make it onto the podium after three 5th place finishes this year and a bronze in Paks.
Yasmin Javadian (-52kg) is continuing her comeback with Berlin being her third competition of the season. At the last two Javadian finished in 7th and 5th, so will be hoping to go one position better this weekend and make the podium.
For the men, Joshua Giles (-60kg) made a breakthrough performance at his last competition taking bronze in Paks, his first Junior medal, and will be hoping for similar this weekend.
Henry Wakes (-66kg) will be looking to recapture his early season form which saw him claim bronze at the Kaunas Junior European Cup
Lachlan Moorhead (-81kg) will be hoping to add to the two bronze medals he won earlier in the year at the Coimbra and Kaunas Junior European Cups.
