Rox plans randori marathon in honour of late mother
August 02, 2023
Rox Casson, a judoka from Kaidokan Judo Academy, is embarking on a charitable judo challenge with the aim of raising awareness and funds for Brain Cancer Research. This challenge holds special significance for Rox as it honours the memory of their late mother, who was their biggest supporter and shared a deep passion for judo.
Scheduled for Wednesday, 30th August, the challenge will involve Rox participating in 100 rounds of randori at the Kaidokan Judo Academy in Blackpool. The event is set to begin at 6 pm and is estimated to last around 2 hours.
Rox is keen on encouraging fellow judoka from the Northwest area and beyond to join them in this ‘randori marathon.’ It promises to be an intense and action-packed evening filled with multiple throws and gruelling bouts.
Expressing their sentiments about the event, Rox shared: “My mother was my anchor, my biggest supporter, and the one who motivated me in every aspect of life, even in pursuing physically demanding hobbies I enjoyed, despite the challenges posed by my dyspraxia which affects my coordination.”
“In 2019, we suffered a heart-breaking loss when my mother was hospitalized and lost her battle with a brain tumour at the age of 53, shortly after celebrating her birthday. After taking time to grieve and reflect, the onset of Covid hindered my training. However, I was determined to find a way to honour her memory. Upon returning to judo, I made the decision to take on a unique challenge: fighting 100 opponents in one-minute and fifteen-second rounds, totalling 2 hours of non-stop action.”
“This event will mark the first 100-man grappling event in Blackpool and will truly be an endurance test like no other. I deeply appreciate any contributions towards this cause, and if you are in the area, your support would mean the world to me.”
