Safeguarding

Introduction to Safeguarding

As a team we are often asked what ‘safeguarding’ means and, for us, it simply means, keeping people safe whilst they partake in judo. That means carrying out checks on people such as coaches, Club Welfare Officers and some other volunteers that fulfil the criteria. We are also responsible for updating our safeguarding policies and liaising with the police and social services when necessary.

British Judo take safeguarding and the safety of its members extremely seriously and works closely with the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) NSPCC and Act Craft Trust to ensure we have robust policy and procedures to safeguard Children and Young People, and Adults.

We are also here to give advice on a whole range of areas that help you to reduce risk or help you deal with a problem in relation to Safeguarding.

REMEMBER!

  • Recognise – go with your gut feelings, if it doesn’t feel right- talk to your CWO or the BJA Safeguarding Team.
  • Respond to the needs of the person at risk or something they have told you – talk to your CWO or the BJA Safeguarding Team.
  • Report – if someone is in immediate danger or risk, call emergency services on 999. Report all concerns to your CWO or the BJA Safeguarding Team.
  • Record – pass to the BJA Safeguarding Team and we will save in our case management system.
