Sami Smithson: Head of Inclusion, Safeguarding and Wellbeing.

The British Judo Association is delighted to announce the appointment of Sami Smithson to the role of: Head of Inclusion, Safeguarding and Wellbeing.

Sami takes over the Head of Safeguarding responsibilities from Keith Eldridge who is taking semi-retirement.

Sami will be the main point of contact for all Safeguarding, Wellbeing and Inclusion queries and can be contacted via:

Sami has already led many projects within her previous role, including the successful Female Fighters Festival in March 2022. The festival was so successful that we will be hosting a similar event between 3rd – 5th March 2023 in Southport. Additionally, Sami and her team are raising the profile of all areas within Diversity and Inclusion. If you are interested in volunteering to help with projects related to LGBTQ+, Race & Ethnicity, Adaptive Judo, Gender Equity or Invisible Disabilities contact Sami via safeguarding@britishjudo.org.uk
Sami is also developing a rebrand and relaunch of our mentoring scheme which will aim to support all areas of the community including participants, coaches and officials, keep your eyes peeled for more information later this year.  Finally, more resources and training opportunities will be released in the autumn along with a 4-year action plan addressing, and improving, Mental Health and Wellbeing support across the association.
