Natalie Powell takes home bronze at Tbilisi Grand Slam

Day three at the Tbilisi Grand Slam saw Natalie Powell brings home bronze. The final day was full of action and excitement for Powell in the -78kg category.

The final day of the Tbilisi Grand Slam was filled with action from the start. GB judoka Natalie Powell saw a round one bye in pool B seeing her through to the quarter-finals against Netherlands fighter Karen Stevenson. Unfraternally, Powell was defeated by her opponent, Stevenson in the quarter-finals, after Powell picked up three shido.

Powell defeated her opponent Chloe Buttigieg from France in the opening round of the repechage. 54 seconds into the round Powell defeated Buttigieg with an ippon score. This afternoon Powell was fighting Audrey Tcheumeo from France for the bronze medal. Securing her bronze medal, Powell defeated her opponent Tcheumeo with an ippon score.

Tbilisi Grand Slam has been a successful weekend for GB Judoka with Powell winning a bronze medal today. We also saw Acelya Toprak placing 7th in the -57kg category and Gregg Varey fighting in the -66kg category in day one.
