Toprak 7th on opening day of Tbilisi Grand Slam

On the opening day of the Tbilisi Grand Slam, Acelya Toprak recorded her second-best Grand Slam result finishing 7^th.

Acelya Toprak compted today in the -57kg category. Toprak won Thayane Lemos from Brazil in round two with an ippon score within 1 minute and 57 seconds of Golden Score. Securing her place in the quarter-finals where she fought French fighter Priscilla Gneto. Toprak was given two shidos in the quarter-finals and her opponent Gnet won with an ippon score. She faced Veronica Toniolo from Italy in the Repechage where she was defeated by Toniolo after scoring an ippon.

Also competing today was Gregg Varey in the -66kg. Varey was drawn against Shahboz Saidaburorve from Tajikistan. Varey was defeated by Saidburorve in round one after he scored two waza-ari resulting in a final ippon score.

Elimination round action will start at 8:30 am (BST) on Saturday 4^th June 2022. Final Block is scheduled to commence at 14:00 (BTS) tomorrow.
