July 29, 2024
On the third day of judo action at the Paris Olympic Games, Lele Nairne was defeated in the opening round to 6th seed Eteri Liparteliani (GEO) in the -57kg category.
Nairne, who was making her Olympic debut against the Tokyo 5th place finisher conceded an early shido for stepping out of the area before Liparteliani had a waza-ari score wiped off before registering a waza-ari score as the contest reached the midway point. The Georgian then transitioned into the hold-down to pin Nairne for 10 seconds to register an ippon score.
Speaking after the contest, Nairne said: “That was not the fight I wanted, I am very disappointed, but she is a very tough competitor.
“I am incredibly proud of myself for making the Games, I just wish I could have fought better.
“It has been a long journey to make it here. I am going to take some time off and spend some time with my family.”
