Tough Day for Nairne in Paris

On the third day of judo action at the Paris Olympic Games, Lele Nairne was defeated in the opening round to 6^th seed Eteri Liparteliani (GEO) in the -57kg category.

Nairne, who was making her Olympic debut against the Tokyo 5^th place finisher conceded an early shido for stepping out of the area before Liparteliani had a waza-ari score wiped off before registering a waza-ari score as the contest reached the midway point. The Georgian then transitioned into the hold-down to pin Nairne for 10 seconds to register an ippon score.

Speaking after the contest, Nairne said: “That was not the fight I wanted, I am very disappointed, but she is a very tough competitor.

“I am incredibly proud of myself for making the Games, I just wish I could have fought better.

“It has been a long journey to make it here. I am going to take some time off and spend some time with my family.”
